IONS air sanitisation systems are devices that treat indoor air environments through bipolar ionisation powered by cold plasma technology. This innovative process produces positively-charged hydrogen ions from airborne water molecules and negatively-charged oxygen ions from atmospheric oxygen.
The result is superoxide ions which trigger chemical reactions in indoor environments to create air particles of the same quality of those found in natural, outdoor spaces.
Bipolar ionisation is a technology implemented in our devices to produce negatively and positively charged ion particles. The ionised particles produce clusters of hydroxyl radicals formed on the surface of bacteria, effectively removing the hydrogen from the bacteria’s cellular walls and deactivating the microbe, including viruses which are the smallest of all microbe types.
This process sanitises the air environments under ionisation by destroying both airborne and surface bacteria and pathogens. Bipolar ionisation reduces the electrostatic charges in air that attracts and accumulates dust and pollutants.
Numerous studies have found that air environments treated with bipolar ionisation improves respiratory functions, increases oxygen flow to the brain, improves mental and cognitive performance and sleep quality, reduces headaches, and increases energy and mood through better regulation of serotonin.
Zero maintenance or additional parts are required for all of our personal and commercial products. This includes HEPA filters, which are common with other air sanitisation products available.
The Pod and the Tower can be cleaned with a simple wipe of the stainless steel surface. The VAIA Lamp, the Cube, and the IONS Duct Unit and Bar are equipped with our patented self-cleaning technology.
Most commonly sold air purification devices use photocatalysis, which is ionisation produced through ultraviolet (UV-C) rays on a catalytic structure composed mostly of titanium dioxide. The method using exclusively UV-C to treat the airflow can potentially purify the air particles but the complete sanitisation of the particles cannot be guaranteed.
The UV-C-reliant process can produce more ozone molecules than what is found in natural environments. While ozone is a naturally occurring gas, increased amounts of ozone particularly indoors and at ground level can pose risks to human health. Photocatalysis also reduces the efficacy of the device over time, requiring periodical maintenance and replacement of UV lamps. UV lamps can contain mercury and require special waste disposal methods.
We are the only air sanitisation device producers to use a patented self-cleaning generator in our Cube and Duct systems.
Ozone is a naturally occurring molecule that forms in the atmosphere. It is composed of oxygen atoms and can be found in both outdoor and indoor air environments. The level of ozone found in natural, outdoor spaces is normally at a level of 30 parts per billion in very pure outdoor environments, and 70 parts per billion in urban areas. The ozone level produced through the bipolar ionisation process in IONS devices is less than 5 parts per billion for D5 devices and less than 10 parts per billion at D6 devices.
Our sanitisation systems in the Personal Use range such as the Pod and the Tower can operate in a temperate range of -10°C to more than 70°C and in humidity from 20% to 95%. The VAIA Lamp and the Cube can operate in a temperature range of 5°C to upwards of 55°C and in humidity from 20% to 80% without condensation.
There is no need to choose between your air conditioner and your IONS device. IONS systems can operate in environments as they are being air conditioned and will not be impacted or lessen the efficiency of your bipolar ionisation or your air con.
Very easily. None of our devices require filters or cartridges that can be a common requirement with other air purification devices in the market. The Pod and the Tower require a simple clean wipe of the device once a month or as needed. The Cube and commercial devices such as the IONS Duct Unit and the IONS Bar (both Bar II and Bar III) are outfitted with our patented self-cleaning technology, so you can sit back and relax in your purified indoor space with no upkeep needed.
All IONS Clean Air devices come with a 1-year warranty.
This warranty becomes effective at the date of purchase. Please retain your proof of purchase.
Our devices are engineered for high performance on a continual basis. If an IONS device is used how it is intended and there is an issue within the warranty period, we will happily assist you.
Should you encounter an issue within the warranty period, send the product back to us for an extensive review of the device. Please note that shipping charges to send the device is at the customer's expense.
Once we have reviewed the device and have determined the cause of the issue to be a manufacturing defect, we will replace the device. Should our review conclude that it is not a manufacturing defect, the device will not be replaced.
Please note the warranty does not cover:
- Device purchases from unauthorised dealers or sellers
Habitual wear and tear, including parts that may wear out over time - Accidental damage
- Damage as a result of use not in accordance with recommended device handling and maintenance
- Damage from external sources such as weather, power surges or outages, and transit.
- Faults or damage caused by negligence, misuse, and/or careless handling and operation of the device
- Damage or device failures caused by circumstances outside of IONS Clean Air's control
- Faulty assembly or installation if the work was not carried out by IONS Clean Air
- Repairs or amendments to the device carried out by external parties other than IONS Clean air
The AWIONS technology in IONS devices is routinely tested against a significant number of pathogens including viruses, bacteria, spores, and mould. Stringent testing measures have been in place since 2000. All devices are independently tested and certified by a number of renowned international organisations.

AWIONS technology in IONS devices have been tested for efficiency against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) by LifeAnalytics Laboratory in Italy and Sheba Medical Centre in Israel in 2020. Test results from the Sheba Medical Centre on October 20, 2020 indicated a 99% inactivation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
